A graduate and Ph.D. holder from the School of Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He received his specialty certification in Internal Medicine in Athens in 1999. He underwent two years of specialized training in diabetes mellitus, obesity, and diabetic foot disorders, at the Diabetes Center of the First Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Athens. She has held the title of specialist in Diabetology since 2020, when it was officially recognized by the Ministry of Health as a specialty within Internal Medicine.
From November 2003 to January 2024, he served at the First Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Athens and the Diabetes Center at GNA “Laiko,” initially as a Resident and, since 2018, with the rank of Director in the National Health System (ESY). Since January 2024, he has been providing medical services in the private sector.
He is the Secretary General of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Diabetes Association (2024–) and of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic College of Metabolic Diseases (2023–). He served as Chair of the European Study Group on the Epidemiology of Diabetes from 2016 to 2018. In 2024, he was elected an International Fellow of the Specialist Certification of Obesity Professional Education (SCOPE) program of the International Obesity Federation (IDF).
He has participated in numerous multicenter studies focusing on diabetes mellitus and obesity. He has authored 146 published papers indexed in MEDLINE. He is a contributor to the guidelines of the Hellenic Diabetes Association (2011–2025).
