Emmanuel Petropoulos was born in Athens. After passing the national entrance exams, he was admitted to the School of Medicine at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from which he graduated in 1982. He completed his residency in radiology at the P. and A. Kyriakou Children’s Hospital and at the Metaxas General Hospital of Piraeus. His interest focused on diagnostic and interventional ultrasound, and he received further training in this field at Guy’s Hospital in London.
For seven years, he served as a resident in the radiology department of the Metaxa General Hospital of Piraeus, where he focused primarily on ultrasound and mammography and helped establish the interventional radiology department, particularly guided needle biopsies.
In 1997, he became the scientific director of the Ultrasound and Guided Aspiration Department at the Biomedical Center, where he worked until 2018, and where he performed, for the first time in Greece at a private practice, guided needle biopsies, primarily of the thyroid, breast, and prostate.
In 2018, he founded the Ultrasound and Puncture Laboratory in Athens, which he continues to direct to this day.
As a speaker, he has participated in numerous international and Greek conferences. He has also participated as a guest speaker in continuing education programs.
